Organizational Background
Vantage Consulting Group is a 900-person strategy consulting firm with offices in five cities. Founded in 1989, it built its reputation on rigorous analytical work and an up-or-out culture. Diversity initiatives were launched in 2019 following a public embarrassment. Three years and four DEI Directors later, the numbers haven't moved. The current DEI Director was hired from a competitor and has the ear of the CEO - but not the trust of the workforce. A recent anonymous survey showed that 71% of women and 68% of employees of color feel the firm's stated values don't match daily experience. Senior leadership reviewed the data and concluded the problem was 'pipeline.' Two senior managers of color resigned last quarter.
